Matchpoints, 2/1

1. Do you agree with the bidding so far?

2. What would you bid after 3N?

Stick it out, the T9 of hearts are tempting but partner would often bid 3H with a doubleton heart unless he had clubs well stopped. I guess we should be more worried about diamonds, but I think 2 trump losers + 2 other losers with only 4 losers in NT is more likely.

(1) No, but:
(2) That's what I did (3), so here we are. Sticking with the eggs in the rickety basket.

Probably would have tucked in a little and rebid 3H rather than J.S. to a Jack third, but most won't go along with that.

I hate 3 . I am used to avoid opening 2 with two suiters on any excuse, so 3 would show about a queen more, but this is not the main objection: I would like to have a tool for this hand (close to the BW death hand again) avaiable.

Now, I would shrug and pass. Partner did not bid 3 nor 3 , so 3 NT looks like the best bet.
Kind Regards

Roland

I think most would.

In standard with 18+ you play better minor with one suiters so 3D is clear. I have learnt that here on bbo forum !

I agree with a SJS, to show a GF hand, but since you have no 4 or 5 card minor, I think it would be better to use:
3C! = " may be artificial " ; and then Responder could use 3D! as the "ask" .
You then could tailor Opener's replies to show, say :
-- 3H! = long , no real - suit, and may have 3 cards
-- 3S! = real - suit AND 3 card -support
-- 3NT! =real - suit, but no 3 cards .

Here, Opener can show a GF w/ long and may have 3 cards ... at the 3-level ( 3H ) !

EDIT:
Actually, 2NT! would better "optimize" the GF... leaving more room ( or better use ) for replies after a 3C! "ask" .
And that would leave the direct 3C/3D - jumps as natural.

I dislike bidding non existent suits, so would bid 3H playing traditional methods. There are some gadgets available - I play 2NT here to show various hand types.

Another of those hands where US style dictates the agricultural 3D bid. Now P&P (pass and pray).
