Its an Open Teams event not a national selection event.

In the same way that there are European Open Teams events and many other events around the world are open to competitors from other nationalities.

Historically the Canberra event has attracted regularly some European and North American players.

Yes, as Cascade says.

The tournament was very fun and well run. I was particularly impressed with the heart shown by our opponents in the semis, we picked up like 60 in the third which would break most peoples spirits but they came back and played great in the 4th and won. Long KO matches are very psychological and you have to have a lot of heart/mental toughness imo to come back from a set like that. I think this is an aspect of bridge that is not talked about enough, compared to say boxing where it is well known.

I had a great time and would love to go back. The Aussies were all very friendly and welcoming which had always been my experience with them. There were also a ton of juniors, many of them quite strong players, which is always encouraging.

Justin, on behalf of the ABF Youth Committee I can say that it was a pleasure having you at the event and we particularly appreciated the time you and Joe took to come out to Eaglehawk where the junior events were held and give the players a talk, play some bridge in the crazy pairs and present our major prizes. I think we even managed to get a cricket bat into Joe's hands at the BBQ!

Any time, thanks for inviting us. Was interesting to see what a great youth congress there was in Australia when USA has nothing remotely close to that, I'm sure it's a contributing factor to why there are so many juniors keen on bridge in Aus.
