Saw it on the Mind Games. Bidding didn't go like that. I figure the standard bid is Double. What do you think?
Expect unexciting handling of interference (most bidding was pedestrian) so X by responder is positive 8+HCP or without 5 card semipositive (5-7) and other bids are semipositive with 5 card suit(5-7).

I play Dbl as a strong balanced hand, that's what I have. But it's also useful to have agreements about partner's Pass (in my case it's positive).

So what would a rebid of 2NT show for you? Clubs?

What do you do with the takeout type hand 4144 or 5143? Or this rather semitakeout hand.

Based on the edit to the OP, it seems that partner's pass over 2♦ was negative (i.e., less than 5 HCP). This leaves me in a very difficult position in the absence of established agreements.

I suppose that a double here would show a strong balanced hand, although I have never been in this position, since a pass by my partners over 2♦ would show values. There is a possibility for a misunderstanding here. I certainly cannot bid 2NT with Jx of diamonds, nor do I feel comfortable bidding 3♣ on Axxxx. Two of a major is out of the question.

I would double. Who knows? Maybe partner is sitting there with KT9xx of diamonds?

A balanced hand with a stopper (chance of penalizing is smaller because you're in front of overcaller).

These hands can also Dbl imo, or cuebid if you're just too strong. 4441 is usually considered balanced (what will you do after 2♣-(p)-2♦-(p)?), for 5431 it depends on the 5 card suit. With 5M431 just bid the Major.
