Say you lead the ♦A and partner plays the 8 playing UDCA. How should South find a ♥ switch either now or a trick later ? Should he reason that East would not be bidding 3♠ with a dubious ♥K ? Is there a case to be made for North playing the ♦9 first ? Partner can not have six ♦s for bidding 3♥, he would almost surely have bid 3♦ after making a support double first. So if you play the Nine at T1, the only danger is that he may cash a 2nd ♦ thinking you have a stiff, but when all follow suit, he might figure out you played the spots in that order. Of course, given the actual lay-out of cards, a trump switch or even ♣ doesn't do the defense any damage.
P.S. It may be West, not East who bid 2s, but it was definitely East who bid 3s to close the auction.
