ravelry forums?

How did you know?

My best guess by far for hobby in general that would appeal to you but that you wouldn't think would appeal to bbo forum posters was knitting. I have a lot of coworkers who are big in to knitting and make a big deal of it whenever the knitting convention comes to town. But I'm not a member of the ravelry forums so your bet may still be good!

I do know other bridge players who are members of ravelry, and I know someone else who is a member of both forums, but he is not a frequent poster, and has not posted on this thread.

The only thing I'm excited about for our move is being close to Stitches West (I've never been). I want to meet your coworkers! :)

I'm not sure, but on some forums the negative voting can contribute to flame wars, hurt feelings, and poorer quality posts. Maybe that is why they are disabled here?

As is gradually becoming clear, it is to protect posters like Foxx, who has lately acquired a tendency to humiliate himself in the bridge threads on a weekly basis.

When can you get downvotes? It could turn the Fora into an interesting war...

yes you can down vote
there is a minus next to the up vote

but there is a daily limit of sown votes, i think 5

I upvoted this comment, because it's apparently a giveaway. But you're statement is wrong. The daily limit is zero downvotes.

Whatever the limit is, it's higher than it was last week, because I was just able to downvote your comment.

Ohhhhhh nooooooooo.....

Yeah, I had to open up and go run my big mouth, and now the pins have snapped out of the grenades. Expressing unpopular opinions, or supporting bids that would get a score of 0 in bidding polls has suddenly become dangerous.

I'm in trouble......

On another forum (I'm not bothering to name it because I would bet money that no one who's posted in this thread is a regular member) they have a whole array of voting choices on the bottom of posts. The choices include "agree" and "disagree". It works really well in the part of the forum that is related to technique, although there is some wanking about "phantom disagreers", but not as much as could be expected.

Basically, the agree and disagree aren't up and down votes, so they remain displayed, and you can see if a post is controversial, widely agreed with, widely disagreed with, or a non-boat-rocker.

I'm intrigued by this -- I crochet, and have sometimes looked on forums for ideas and tips; but I find it hard to imagine a post on such a subject igniting much controversy! Will definitely investigate!

If it really is possible now to downvote I think I will save mine for posters who force readers to scroll past a lot of white space. I find this truly obnoxious.

I think it was Rain who posted in another forum here that both upvotes and downvotes are now available. I think a limit of 20 was mentioned.

I'll just save mine for those who force people to scroll past a lot of drivel.

i once knew a man with a business card who had many ca[pital letters follwing his name, something like

joe schmuck, ESQ, RN, BSC , MSC, MBA, RTIII, BFD, ....

the footer of the business card stated:

"A man of 1001 occupations"

it was bold, it was italic.

Matmat is his first cousin.
