I always thought you were supposed to open with a 2 bid when you had more quick tricks than losers. Based on that standard it's got 4 losers and 4.5 QTs.

I opened 1 and jumped to 3 over partners 1. That is where I played opposite KJ953 6 9 A98753
Making 5 for -10imps. The other table opened 2 and managed to get to 5.

Despite me having a preferenc for opening 2C, I think responder is worth a bid over 3D :)

Over 1 I'd bid 2. 3 is another possibility. I prefer (and thought it was standard) to use the 3NT rebid to show a solid (or even semi-solid) opening suit and these diamonds, although seven, do not look solid to me. So, is the 3NT rebid that or just 'I have a bunch of good diamonds and enough for game but not exactly balanced'?

Yeah that's right, 3NT is a distortion. But heck, everything is. Maybe 3 is less ugly.

So, a much more interesting question is what do you bid after 1:1 holding A, AKx, AQxxxxx, Qx

It's good to know what 3N would be, I'm still not sure if I would chose it.

After 3 passes I would also consider just opening 3NT. Let ops try to figure it out from there. I can always pull to diamonds if doubled.

What is the maximum hand people open 3D in 4th seat with? I would think this hand is too strong, but how much weaker would it have to be?

A tiny bit weaker, say with xxx instead of AKx I would definitely consider it.

You have to force to game there is no choice about that. You could make a reverse with 2, you could bid 5, or you could bid 3NT. In theory 3NT shows a solid suit with a bit less outside, but it's maybe the most practical bid.

If I opened 1, I would reverse to 2 over 1. Its important that partner properly evaluate black suit controls and I'm not sure a direct 3N accomplishes this.

Might be be tempted into 2 playing strong twos - but I am not tempted into 2 playing standard twos.

How can you think about opening 2C and then rebid 3D? That makes no sense.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.
