IMPs

1 16+ unbalanced or 18+ balanced

1 0-7

Is anyone up for 3 here?

Why should I bid 3?

The opponents have passed over 1 and over 1-1. Surely they might still get back in, but I'm not going to do anything drastic to prevent it. This looks more like it is tending to be a misfitting hand where partner has some length in the major suits.

If 3 should be intended as a value bid with extras then I don't have any.

2 is a good bid so I will make it.
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

I am confused ...

How does the second part of the sentence follow from the first?

Where are the majors??
Do opponents have Major overcall MM takeout?
Get up on them 3D --but they didn't bid.
Is partner sitting with 5S+5H?
Let them find M-fit at 2M over 2D, then ding them on misfit if they 3M? I try this.

I play 3 as GF here, but that could depend on what your rules for bidding are.

It's nice that I play precision so a 2 rebid explains exactly what I have in my hand!
I once yelled at my partner for discarding the 'wrong' card when he was subjected to a squeeze that I allowed by giving the wrong count with too high a card. Now he's allowed to pitch aces when the opponents have the king in the dummy. At trick 2. When he could have followed suit. And blame me.

Good point. We were playing a big artificial forcing 1 rebid.

3D seems bizarre unless you play it as preemptive.

Please don't post a simulation that shows that after partner shows 0-7 there are more hands that want to preempt than hands that make game.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

If I had any shame in my life, I'd be ashamed to admit that 3 would occur to me. But I'd rejct it. Turn the the Q into a spade, and a small spade into a club, and I'll be there.

So what would 3 show?
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn
