You open 1. LHO overcall 2 showing black suits 5-5.RHO bid 4 and you are finally in 5.

Lead:K,Ace,4,3

You play the 2 for your Ace and LHO discards a .

Play a diamond to the Ace then trumps, leaving one trump outstanding so they can't force me before I set up the fourth diamond. Will need 3-2 diamonds but that seems almost certain. Am I missing something?

I lost 10 minutes looking for endplays and rare squeezes before realizing how simple this one was, pretty one.

Since you have exhausted yourself of your club stoppers and trump, the 6016 hand would be able to claim at that point.

Ok, I meant draw last trump, so still have 2 of them in hand and in dumy :)

What you don't seem to realize is that RHO has 4 trumps. You can't draw them without exhausting all of your trump.

Why do I feel there is something so obvious here? The best I can see is making on a 3-2 diamond split, avoiding a club ruff.

Here,
Spoiler

bridge is never always a game of exact, for those times it's all about percentages, partner and the opponents.

No need for trumps right now. RHO has at least two diamonds (so no ruff coming), so duck a diamond.

1) If spade returned, ruff that, cross to ace of diamonds. If diamonds are 3-2, play two rounds of trumps (winning queen if offered), then duck another diamond (preserving the beer card). Win return (with club king or by ruffing with smallest trump), cross in clubs to master trump if necessary, draw trump and claim.

2) If club returned, win. Then cash ace of diamonds; if diamonds are 3-2, draw trumps and duck a diamond (preserving the beer card) and claim.

Don't see how I'm making it with diamonds 4-1.
