Pass 1 ?

Still decidedly intermediate - don't take my guesses as authoritative.

I would have bid 2 here with very little thought. It seems far more preemptive than the other options, and seems unlikely to be punished.

I'm surprised that double is so popular. Is the idea that a 4/3 fit at the 2 level will be a good save? What happens if the opponents compete to 3? Will partner be open to the fact that we might only have 3?

I wouldn't have even considered pass here.

Double seems normal. 2 can work but I can't think of a less accurate description for it than "unlikely to be punished"!

So what would be a safe 2 then? AKQxx? KQJTx? AQxxxx?
