Scoring: MP

P (P) 1 X
?

We were playing inverted minors, which I assumed would still be on over the double. Still, is this a clear 100% pass?

Pass? Never! I would consider this a run of the mill 3D at w/r. Hopefully partner is not 4432 with a 19 count!

OP assumes inverted is on over a double. Is this common? I thought on after overcall but off over double was more common, and that off over any comp was far more common

Even fifty years ago a jump over a double was considered weak by most players as the advancer did not redouble.

Even if the partnership agreement is inverted raises, most players do not play inverted raises over a takeout double. But the jump raise is often played as preemptive over the takeout double.

That is not to say that there are not agreements to the contrary. Many play reverse Jordan over doubles of minor suit openings, in which 2NT is a preemptive raise of the minor suit and a jump to 3 is a limit raise.

Yes, 4 is tempting, but I think it's too much.
Inverted is off in competition.

I bid 3 at the table. It was only worth 33% of the matchpoints, as none of the E/W pairs made game. Partner was 4432, but only 12HCP.

I find I often fail to compete when I should at matchpoints, but the result had me genuinely wondering if I'd overcompensated.

Thanks.

I'm not a big fan nor heavy user of IM so with that caveat I would expect any call to be preemptive I would not use 3 unless 1 promised 4+ settling instead for 3. I would not expect to keep opps out of game so my objective has to be to get them to misjudge the correct strain. Cramping their bidding space is the best way to effect that.

Meh, you had 15 HCP and stole it for 3D. Usually that's a good thing, sounds like game was down on 4-1 trumps at most tables though. Oh well, it happens.
