Some one once told me with flat hands, defend. So with a 4333 and 4 cards in their trump suit, how much stronger would you have to be to pass?

I would pass with the same hand but Q8xx.
If they make 2X it may not be the end of the world, since we will often concede vulnerable undertricks in a heart contract by bidding 2.
