Scoring: MP

1-(3!)-Pass-(3)
???
  MP's
You open 1 because too strong for 1NT (agree?).
LHO bids 3: Majors, at least 5-5
What do you call over RHO 3 bid?

I don't think it's too strong for 1NT. You have 17HCP, but a stiff KQ and you don't have A.

And now? You're in trouble ;) I'd pass quickly.

I'd pass too. Partner can still bid anyhow.

Also, he rates to not have a heart void when he leads the 3.

I agree that it was too strong for 1NT.

Now I bid 4. It seems likely that they'll make 3, and even if 4 is going two down it will be hard for them to double. The biggest risk is that partner will raise to game with a singleton heart and an ace.

pass - RHO has only given preference between the majors. there's no reason to assume they've got a good fit

Finding partner with a weak 4315 seems like a pretty big risk as well and I'm not sure why it will be hard for them to double when we are down two. They seem to be pretty well placed to decide correctly from here.

But partner could also have:

xxxx
xx
Axx
Kxxx

Then we make 4 and they probably make 3 so it would be very costly to pass. If he has less and we are down one that is ok too as long as he doesn't have a lot of defence.

I think this is hard but I'm leaning towards 4. It just feels bad to be bidding four of a suit by myself when I have a 1NT opener.

Thanks for replies. Partner had:

I did bid 3NT and LHO did lead a small . You are not always punished for bad decissions.
I made 6 NT as RHO did discard 2's.
