Scoring: MP

PASS PASS 1 3
?

Your bid?

What if you play 4-card majors (any style)?

If you bid how much less before you would pass?

If you pass how much more before you would bid?

Would it make a difference if the scoring is IMPs?

X? Not sure

I think A and Q in a different suits (instead of the same) could be enough for a pass.

Probably not.

Also, he rates to not have a heart void when he leads the 3.

Show D-lead desired and H-fit (fit bid 4D; I xfer then 4H). 3-support is ruffing spades --OK deviation even if 4xH.
How much less/more decided by DT.
I have expected 2xDT, so likely 4S fails.
Fewer DT and pass, hoping they miss 4S Vul game.
Same in IMP's, but more certainty 'don't bounce them into 4S game'.

I would bid 4 but this is right on the margin. You could take away 10 or 9 but not more.

I think you absolutely positively must bid (playing 5 card majors!) If the diamonds were AQxx it would be close, if they were worse I would pass.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

5-card majors: 4, obviously
4-card majors, strong notrump: pass. (Not a great advertisement for the methods, this.)
4-card majors, weak notrump: have forgotten how to play this system, but either 4 or double.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

This can backfire very badly, but you have to do it. 4.
