How is this an ATB? East could try playing bridge. West could get a new pard I guess.

East
"Gibberish in, gibberish out. A trial judge, three sets of lawyers, and now three appellate judges cannot agree on what this law means. And we ask police officers, prosecutors, defense lawyers, and citizens to enforce or abide by it? The legislature continues to write unreadable statutes. Gibberish should not be enforced as law."

I think the blame goes to the partnership for not being on the same page about what the diamond signal means in this case. Is it "showing" (no diamond honor) or "telling" (stop leading clubs!)?

It depends a bit on the trump spots, but I don't see why West cannot have something like Txxx Axx Kxxxx x, in which case South might have 10 tricks if trumps are not led. I would not have guessed that south held KQ9xx of trump.

Actually, never mind - you gave all the higher trump spots so I guess the x in dummy must be very small.

Is there any way a trump lead could be required here? Even if South holds x KQT9xxx A xxxx, I don't think a trump lead helps because the defenders get squeezed.

I don't understand these fancy signals I guess... playing upside down I would take a high diamond as discouraging meaning west does not have a high diamond honor which makes the defense very easy.

ATB = 100% E.
This is so clear that I don't even understand why the question was posed.

To me high means "no diamond A or K". East should take it from there.

Club lead beats it for sure. After a pointed suit lead declarer is unlikely to get hearts right. Seems like only a heart lead gives the game away. Maybe a spade trying to cut dummys entries is best?

At least the question asked was easy enough that we could now divert to both N and S's absurd rebids? But yes what else is west supposed to do, throw the queen of spades? He really shouldn't have to...

I'm glad someone else noticed the auction.

As for the misdefense, I think W gave E everything he needed to know!
