Scoring: BAM

(P) - 1NT - (P) - 4;
(Dbl) - 4 - All Pass

T1: 4*-7-K-2
T2: J - ?

*3rd/5th leads

How do you plan to play the trumps?

Edit: If you will do work on the side suits first, say what you will do and I will let you know what happens.

I do not think I will find out anything useful by playing side suits. I also believe that the double of 4 does not promise any significant lenght. I play AK unless someone shows out in the first round.

it looks like we have some vacant space issue here, but also we have to imagine why did east forget to cash A wich is so odd opposite this dummy.

He must have the spades controlled, putting even more vacant spaces on him, and also he must think that partner might have AQx or he would switch to spades rather.

All points towards A + running J, I'll do that.

I'd wonder whether the auction will go differently at the other table. Perhaps they play in 3NT (not likely but quite possible at this form of scoring).

The normal line in 3NT is to play hearts off the top. So, in 4, I play for a finesse of the Queen. Agree with fluffy that West is more likely to hold Q; so I go with his line.

In addition, East has shown up with AK and J. With the Q of trumps he's getting close to and opening hand (and he passed). I'm finessing... the drop is very close on the odds vs the finesse with 9 trump.

I would play A and let the J run. I think RHO has QJx, AK and J which makes it impossible for him to have Q.

Cash AK (in that order), assuming they don't split 4-0.

Standard safety play, win the club king and low to the heart ace. If either shows out, I'll play a diamond. Otherwise, heart to king and a diamond.

Scoring: BAM

Table 1 Bidding:

P - 1NT - P - 4;
Dbl - 4 - All Pass

Table 2 Bidding:

P - 1NT - P - 2;
Dbl - 2 - P - 4;
All Pass

Defense started same at both tables. Diamond to K, J switch.

I was declarer at table 1 and laid down the A. 10 tricks.

At table 2, declarer played the J to A and then hooked on the way back. She remarked that East must hold the Q for his double.
