Scoring: BAM

(1) - ...

West opens 1 and opponents pass throughout thereafter.

1. What is your auction for North and South from there?
2. What contract do you want to be in? Do you have a way to get there?

I'd probably bid 1D p p 1H p 1N p p p. No idea where I want to be, too late for that!

1-P-P-1N-2-P-2-2N-3N

Too high, but might make with W 3343.

I want to be in 1N or 2N, I want to avoid the sequence above in case partner has Jx or xxx rather than Jxx in the diamond suit.

1-1-1NT-2NT-3NT looks sensible to me

1-1NT-pass seems likely to me. When both partners have maximum cards for their bidding, pessimistic contracts are likely to be bid.

Playing with a lot of my regular partners, it would undoubtedly go

1di - p - p - 1he
p - 2nt - p - 3nt
all pass

I probably want to be in 3nt south, but as REM put it, ....

Scoring: BAM

(1) - P - (P) - 1;
(P) - 1NT - All Pass

We repeated the auction suggested by Justin. We both felt max for our actions, but thought the bidding was reasonable.

Double dummy says the only making game is 3NT by south. I don't know how to get there or whether I want to be there single dummy.

O_o what's the urge to bid NT with Jxx? you have 4 spades!

Anyway, 3NT requires a wild guess to make while you can cash 3 heart tricks. Not the line you are likelly taking.

But isn't the sec queen your only chance of making three heart tricks? If you want to play low to the jack first you are an entry short, unless you get a diamond lead.

I would be very unhappy after balancing 1H to think anyone would jump to 2NT with Jxx in D. 1S seems a standout in comparison to 2N, even 2C will get more votes. 1N in the balancing seat is also not unreasonable. Should you choose 1N partner will surely raise to 2N and it then seems like we take a look at the colors and form of scoring before we make out last choice 3N or pass.
