Sorry this is a very simple question but does everyone play an auction such as

1S-2C-2H-2S

as guarenteeing 3 card support?

I would not. It sounds like simple preference to me, could be 2-2 for example. But I am no expert on 2/1.

In "standard 2/1" 2S guarantees 3-card support.

However, there exist some strong 2/1 players (and no doubt some no-so-strong 2/1 players) who prefer to be able to bid 2S with a doubleton. No doubt this approach has some theoretical merit, but as far as I can tell, the group of players that favors this approach consists of only a small minority of 2/1 players (at least in the USA).

yep. and 2NT, not 2S, is the marking-time bid by responder, IMHO.

don't know about 3 card but the 2 qbid is normally used as a strong support in this auction. BTW you ought to alert us that the opps are using NFB so that 2 is one.
