I BID GAME!

Was there something that precludes you from bidding the nonforcing/gameforcing 4? I can understand you may not choose to do so, but it seemed odd to me you felt the only choices were 3 and 4.

Isn't weak-2 prohibited from add a level? So 3N shows H-Hx? I try that in case partner psyching/inhibiting 3H. Why no 2NT for feature or min/max?

I like 3N - which, to me, says I have a max, but a singleton or small doubleton in hearts. It's not to play, but partner can leave me there with an appropriate hand, or choose his other possible games in the majors.

As a nonexpert I will try a rebid of 3s.

If you prefer 4s or 4h np.

There seems little reason for partner to introduce a so-so 5-card heart suit if he has a strong hand with even xx in spades. If he is out fooling around, shame on him because I raise to 4H.

I think I'd bid 4.

I think 4 is ridicoulous. Hearts are very hardly playing better than spades.

Our xxx is maybe good enough to stop this suit in 3NT, but we are yet to find a way to run spades after opponents cash their 4 tricks.

as jdonn said: 4. Other options doesn't look right. But depends a bit on vulnerability, vul vs not 3 is probably enough.

For me, this auction is not fundamentally different from 3-Pass-3-Pass; ??

On that auction, many experts have the agreement that opener is not allowed to bypass 3NT unless he has support for responder. (Some would allow for a 4 bid to mean: "Sorry I opened, partner.") Therefore, I think that many experts play that 3NT means: "I don't have a fit for you. If you think 3NT is right, then you can be happy that I didn't bypass it." 4 could mean: "I am sorry that I opened 3, now I am stuck." Other bids agree responder's suit.

Translate that to this auction (2-Pass-3-Pass; ??) and you get the following meanings:

3: I don't have support and I don't have any values. (Please pass while you still can B))
3NT: I don't have support, but I do have some values. If you think 3NT is right, you can pass.
4: I have heart support! And something to show (whatever that is)!
4: I have heart support! But nothing to show.

Therefore, to me, 3NT is the choice of game bid. For the simple reason that it gives partner the option to choose 3NT, as well as 4 and 4.

Did you forget that you opened the bidding with 2S? Partner knows how many spades you hold - he hasn't a clue about the heart suit or the overall quality of your hand. He bid a 1-round force 3H - why would he do that if he wanted to play in spades?

I think 4S doesn't exist. And if it did exist then you should hold KQJ109x of spades and some shape in the minors, KQJ109x x xx Q109x.

With this hand 4S is likely terrible if partner has the expected spade shortness. For hearts you have two very good cards, the ace of spades and the king of hearts. I don't think 4H is ridiculous. Neither is 3S.
and the result can be plotted on a graph.

I bid 3S. Partner passed. x AQJxxx xxx AKJ. Not a success.

A few others including Hamman bid 4H in the same spot.
