A decent player made me do a double-take when he said he wouldn't cue.

Scoring: IMP

1-1
3-3

Hand's pretty good, right?

The hand is pretty good , though not good enough for a GF 3 for me - I would rebid 2.

After 3 , perhaps what your decent-player-friend implied , is that a cue (4)
would show 3 card support (3541, or maybe even 3631), and a direct raise to 4 would show doubleton .

Yeah it's probably a little weak. I had some decent heart spots though. We were down 45 in a team game.... maybe this is the wrong way to make it up.

Too weak for a jump shift. On this auction I raise to 4S and let partner go nuts.

I would cue 4 if I were 110% sure pard would take it as such.

Otherwise just a boring 4.

Of course not good enough for a cue, it was a stretch to jump shift and just a doubleton spade. Consider that a small diamond could have been the king of spades in this hand and then you see what a cue looks like.

3D was an overbid but now we have a comfortable 4S bid.
and the result can be plotted on a graph.

3S doesn't even promise 6 of them you know...very obvious 4S.

Make the Cue.

You are sub min for the 3D bid, but you decided to overbid,
so I would go for the pot burried at the end of the rainbow.

Partners 3S denied long hearts, i.e. you basically have no
wastage in hearts, you have a ruffing value in clubs, and the
Ace of trumps, i.e. the ruffing value should materialize, even
after a trump lead.

Give partner a some hands where slam is good, don't you think they wil bid over 4S with most of them?

You could have AJx AKxxx AKJx x instead, careful with what you show.
and the result can be plotted on a graph.

I think we can improve upon logic like "I have already overbid once so I might as well do so again."

I think you misunderstand what the cue shows. 4 doesn't show a club control, and 4 does not deny one. 4 simply says "I have a raise, and a good one (given the context of my previous bidding)".
"Are you saying that LTC merits a more respectful dismissal?"

You have already overbid your hand. Now just raise to game. If partner can't bid any further, then there probably isn't a slam (and I wouldn't guarantee that you will make 4).
