had a creepy feeling recently, joined as a fourth, and opps bid games and slams and part scores with awesome accuracy,to boot whatever we were in (contract) the killing lead was always found, however i persevered, when one of the partners dissapeared, someone new came in and the tide turned,no more killing leads and their bidding was diabolical,is it possible to play BBO and use skype,or mobile phones??????????????

It is possible, but I have found if you cover your PC with tin foil, that it usually stops the use of Skype and IM programs from the PC's of my opponents.

I haven't found anything to use against mobile phones. Suggestions?

Hi Long John,
Research the people on myhands and see if there is a pattern. It takes a lot more evidence than one hand. Write to abuse at bridge base dot com if you find at trend, but these forums are not for discussing specifics of the hands in question, from what I've read before when people complain on here of cheating. BBO has resources devoted to this but don't expect to be involved in the process.

Thanks,
Old Ben

I think it's only possible with this. Of course this is a trial and error kind of thing. Certain strains of black magic are known to be resistant to it, for instance.
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

Of course it's possible to cheat in online bridge using Skype, mobile phones, ordinary phones, AOL Instant Messaging, etc. How could BBO possibly prevent you from talking to your partner on the phone? How could they even tell?

Also, nothing stops you from playing with a partner who is using a computer sitting right next to you. If you have two computers, you could login from each of them using a different account, and play with yourself. And it will probably be as satisfying as the other meaning of that phrase.

Woody Allen would disagree.

As long as it is only a "little" disheartened, that is probably an appropriate response. BBO management does behind the scene devote considerable resources to detecting and eliminating cheaters, where they are reported through the proper channels and where there are sufficient grounds for suspicion. Sadly this process is inevitably a long drawn out affair of amassing evidence which then requires some human analysis. So the cheater will likely have some free reign for a considerable period. If sufficiently sophisticated he may never be caught.

Nothing can stop you having private suspicions about an individual. When that happens I recommend that you just avoid them. There are plenty of other players out there. You cannot necessarily avoid them in a tourney, I agree, so there is no perfect solution.

By the way, when you are playing in the MBC in a group of friends, having all 4 of you in a Skype conference call adds to the experience, in my view.
Psych (pron. saik): A gross and deliberate misstatement of honour strength and/or suit length. Expressly permitted under Law 73E but forbidden contrary to that law by Acol club tourneys.

Psyche (pron. sahy-kee): The human soul, spirit or mind (derived, personification thereof, beloved of Eros, Greek myth).
Masterminding (pron. mPosted ImagesPosted ImagetPosted Imager-mPosted ImagendPosted Imageing) tr. v. - Any bid made by bridge player with which partner disagrees.

Well, from what I understand, cell phones reduce sperm count. So, if your opponents are playing with themselves with cell phones, they will pay the Darwin way. Eventually, cell-phone cheater populations will decrease.
"Gibberish in, gibberish out. A trial judge, three sets of lawyers, and now three appellate judges cannot agree on what this law means. And we ask police officers, prosecutors, defense lawyers, and citizens to enforce or abide by it? The legislature continues to write unreadable statutes. Gibberish should not be enforced as law."

I have encountered unalloved helping several times, MBC, usually in friendly play.
Once it was my partner, a friend. He had probably an "artillery observer"... I ended this session rather quickly.
Another time I remember was with two other friends. I think they did it mostly as a way of training - and this is not uncommon, I think.
They had among other some quite peculiar slams with irregular bidding. I become sure when one of them admitted the slam was down before playing it out: The crucial Q was third behind AKKn.... ROFL.
