3 looks normal.

Our red suit stoppers are a bit skinny to bid some number of notrumps right away.
That's impossible. No one can give more than one hundred percent. By definition that is the most anyone can give.

You don't play it as penalty of hearts?

Is 2 forcing? I might get a better read if I pass, but 3 looks normal enough. 3N is a bit much but might work.

If RHO is playing around with a diamond fit, then it is time to punish him. Bid 3, and when he gets 3 back him you double and show your hand much much better at a lower level than you ever could have without his help.

Didn't we have the same discussion a few weeks ago? I vote for takeout of diamonds as the superior treatment, btw.

I think it's clear takeout of diamonds is superior. If he is not psyching then it's more common than showing hearts, and you don't want to show them anyway. If he is psyching then he probably has a diamond fit and you need a bid for takeout, and lose nothing by having to bid 3 natural compared to if he had raised diamonds instead.

I know Marshall Miles advocates having a penalty double when they step out of line like this, but the reason I play it takeout is basically that...agree with jdonn .
