Scoring: IMP

(Pass) - 1 - (5) - ?

You are playing 5-card majors and a strong 1NT.

Feel like bidding?

Pass.
Double is possible, but I am not bidding 5.
That's impossible. No one can give more than one hundred percent. By definition that is the most anyone can give.

I hate this bid, but I'm going to do it anyway: 5.

Double. Don't think this is super-close. Yes, I suck at making these kinds of decisions.

I'd just pass but I half expect someone to go run a few simulations revealing 5 as the percentage call.

I bid my suit, ... I got double for -4 before.

Mark me down as a regretful pass:

My concern with 5 is the following:

1. It's entirely possible that 5 is a great contract for our side
2. It's far from clear that a 5 call will allow us to declare good 5 contract rather than a bad 6 contract

maybe there is a correlation between this bid and this result?

More serious, my expected result of a 5 Spade bid would be -1 or 2 in 5, 6 or 7 Spade.

I would like some kind of "Stop" 5 Spade to show this hand, but maybe they won't allow me to use this bid.
Kind Regards

Roland

I'd double in this event because I figure they are not exactly being sound here. Pass is the actually correct bid.

Pass.

Maybe I should double since Hrothgar is probably sitting there with 7 diamonds and KQTx of spades :P

I want to bid spades but I won't.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

Pass you just can't afford to bid with crap at this level.

When its right to bid 5 partner may well raise to 6.

You could not go far wrong on this problem as partner held:

10xx
AQT9xx
Jx
Ax

and both 5 and 5 made 10 tricks.

I'll let Josh discuss sound bidding with East, as she had

K
x
AQT987654
Kx

for her 5 bid - one of two 9-card suits over the weekend.

Wow this problem is insane. Without looking at any responses I double... first inclination and I'm trying to stick with those these days.

Close. 6-5 it was, we just saw in the 7420 thread :) OK, that was an opening.

Double doesn't seem right with a 7-count. Double unless pure penalties should tell partner that you think the hand belongs to our side. I don't think you can know that with minimum values and no fit for partner and no knowledge of whether partner has a fit for our suit.
