If the club was a singleton, and West doesn't have the 3rd trump, he is likely 6241 and the ♦Q is coming down.

You snipped the last line of my post.

If West looks to be 6241, and ducks the ♦A, I will play the ♦K next, of course, because the queen would be doubleton whether West wins the Ace or not.
If West looks to have 2 diamonds and ducks the ♦A, coming down to singleton Ace(?), I can play low.
If diamonds are 3-3 and the ♦A is ducked, I will probably go down, as I will if the ♦ is won by the Queen, or if trumps break badly.

I think this line fails because you west will return a diamond and east will have Q9.

The winning line was to play the same, but low diamond to the King.
