Hi,

4C, wtp?

May not be the expert bid, but I fail to
see the alternative.

Pass is out, how many tricks do I have?
Partner may have 3, but do I have 2?
3H, may work out ok, espesially if I tank
long enough and bar partner from raising
3H to 4H.

3NT do I really believe 3NT makes?
And if it goes down, it wont be -1, given that
we are red, they dont even need to double to
get a reasonable score.

What is let?

With kind regards
Marlowe

As I play only 3H can be light as 1st step to TOX. 3S,4C+ promise 'working' 5hcp.
Here 3H.

4 - if this causes a problem then it's partner's, not mine.

I can't see how this can work.

You have no bid with:

4 seems normal.

3 is too likely to get raised, perhaps with only three trumps but even with four trumps and a diamond shortage this could be very unsatisfactory.

4C. Be happy it's a five card suit.

I'm a gambler here. 3NT.

The first thing I need is an honor from partner, or a stiff honor to my right, or a doubleton honor to my right and the wrong lead from the left, of a lead of something else other than a diamond because I look smarter than I am.

The second thing I need is some damned way to make this stupid contract.

4 is the right call, I think. But I never make the right call in this auction. I make 3NT more than I should, or break even more than I should, and that "more" seems to be better than 50% of the time, but it still does not seem right to do what I know I do.

With no trick source, no diamond stop, and a scattered 5-count, you make 3NT more than 50% of the time opposite a takeout double which could be as light as a 4414 12-count?

I am...skeptical.

4 looks normal. 3 could work out right but its likely to start rhythm doubles.

3N is pretty wow Ken. Either your partner or RHO is going to hang you.

Your heart is pointed in the right direction, but it overshot it's mark by a ton. Really I don't mind the non-stopper nearly so much as the fact you have nothing. If you can make 3NT you will be in 6NT doubled.

One caveat. My partner will not hang me, because he knows that I might bid 3NT on absolute trash. LOL

For that matter, if I was playing with my wife, she'd probably laugh and bid 4.

I, too, go for the throat - only it's partner's throat I'm after. :)
