2/1 or sayc. Best minor.

3 suiter opening with singleton in a major is

always a 1 opening?
depends on strength?
depends of the minor quality?

a.) AJ10x x AQ10x AQ10x

1d opening?

1d 1n
now?

if 1d 1n
2s 3d
?

3h is showing stopper i think, demanding club stopper, so nothing but 3n?

If a.) is 1d opening, would be 1d opening or 1c because of quality? KJxx x xxxx AKQx

If your are 12-16 better 1d opening, so bidding can go

1 1
1 1n
2 is this showing 12-16 3 suiter?

If you are 17+, opening 1 is a good idea?
1 1
1 1n
2 is this showing 17+ 3 suiter?

kind regards,

With a stiff spades and 16 points you must open 1 since otherwise you have no rebid over p's 1. With all other hands you can chose, but the general advice is to open 1:
- With 17 points you would otherwise have to reverse, but a reverse must show five cards in the opening suit. Rebidding 2 followed by 2N in 3rd round is a smaller lie. Reversing with two fourcards and less than GF strength is not good since you may end up in 3 in a 4-2 fit. With 18-20 points it's probably better to rebid 2N.
- With a singleton hearts and 16-17 points you rebid 1 over 1 and then show your hand with an economic 2 bid in 3rd round.
- In SAYC, 1 is more helpful to p since the implication of a 4-card is stronger (you would open 1 with 3-3. Playing better minor this does not apply, though).
- If you play Walsh, a 1 opening is often the only way to find the diamonds fit.

With 12-15 points opening 1 would be ok with me, assuming you don't play Walsh and your style is to rebid 1NT if p bids 1 and you have a singleton in that suit.
The world would be such a happy place, if only everyone played Acol :) --- TramTicket

Hi,

a matter of style, but I prefer to open diamonds with
44 in the minors, regardless of suit quality.

#a 2C, a 2S bid should show 5-4, just ask yourself
how you will feel, if you have to play 3D in 4-3
fit, if you could have played it one level lower.
Additionally partner will have clubs, he denied
hearts and spades, but holds 13 cards
...
Partner did not promise add. strength and if you bid 3NT
you will play 3NT with 23 HCP in the worst case scenario,
a heart lead being marked, or 3D in a 43 fit.

#b If the 3rd suit bid by opener shows the suit or not is a matter
of partnership agreements,
the majority of the poster on this forum would say yes, I would
say no, for me it would still be 4th suit.
With 17+ I would bid 2NT / 3NT, if partner did bid my singleton, it
will simplify the auction, ... and you will show cards in the unbid suit
as well.

With kind reards
