You are South in a strong-ish MP tourney.

Please argue for your choice of a call.

1. 3S. I would bid 2S at imps, it's close, but 3S really puts the pressure on the opps, and -1100 is just a zero.

2. Any other vulnerability I bid 4H, but unfavorable it's 3H.

1) Will assume spades are 2-2-2 around the table and call this one worth 5 playing tricks.
Equal vul and 5 playing tricks =weak 2 spade call.

2) Will assume partner has one heart and 2-2 in other hands and call this one worth 6 playing tricks.
Unfav vul and 6 playing tricks=weak 2 heart call.

1. Pass. Vulnerabilty is wrong for any action.
2. Pass. 2H expresses my hand but is too weird for me with an 8-bagger.

Although it is nice to mess with the opponents, I also have the responsibility to adhere to partnership's discipline when my hand does not warrant action by our agreements - no cowboy actions from me here.

You are South in a strong-ish MP tourney.

At Imps, I would pass the first hand without a moments concern. I would do the same at MP. I have cards that may serve a useful function on defense (HJ, DQ9, CJ96), and my suit is both anemic and spades is a long, long way away. If we belong to sacrafice over 4H, maybe we can figure it out later. But if I bid 2 or 3S here ,and they find hearts, this will not be the hands partner expectes me to hold.

HAnd two, again at imps, i simply pass. I can not allow my self the luxury of a 2 or 3 or 4 bid, simply because my style does not allow such things at unfavorable playing imps. At matchpoints, however, I have no such reservations. Down a zillion doubled is just as big a zero as passing and missing a useful save/game. So at MP I will bid. The question is will 2 be enough? I think not. So here is a hand I would not even preempt 2 at imps at these colors, but at MP I will put my neck out there. At least if partner cuts it off, he will have some hearts.

So.. summary..

Pass
3

2, 3

I would bid 4 at any other vulnerability on the second hand.

1) 1S

2) 3H

The first hand isn't good enough for a vul 2S bid.

Pass

Pass

I feel sure the these bids are correct, and if my partner showed me the hand record with 2S and 3H bid by me, well...that was yesterday.
