I would be completely happy to bid 3N with this hand over 1C-(3D)

Double seems right to me since I can handle his heart bids. 3NT over 3♥, 6♣ over 4♥. If my club support or my hand were worse I could see your point since it would be difficult to handle a 4♥ bid.

I'll double and correct to spades. Bidding 3♠ directly gives me no chance to play 3♠ opposite a weak notrump, and might get partner too excited if he has extras. While the best contract opposite a minimum opening is likely to be 3♠, playing 4♠ may be better than defending 3♦.
