... ok, but hopefuly you will agree, that the

Scoring: IMP

I passed 3, LHO doubled and RHO bid 4, which drifted one off with only 8 tricks available in spades. Glad to see my actions had some support!

Maybe you should have told us, that is was you young spirit who opened 3 Spade. Opposite a junior I had hoped that we will scrambvle 7 tricks with my hand as dummy somehow and that we won´t get hammered.

With some cowards like me, your hand is not even close to something that looks like a weak three bid in second seat vul against not. But this is just a matter of style.
I had openend this hand 3 Spade on this colours in 1. or 3. seat or nv in second, but never in the position you gave.
Kind Regards

Roland

I think it's rather unlucky that 4 goes off.......

Switch the roundeds and add basically any 1 hcp and 4 has decent play. Wouldn't that be a 3 opener?
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

I'll bid 4 for more reasons:

-It may make or go down one, and tghough it could be an under 50% contract, bidding the game at this vulnerabilities is a 36.5%+ affair
-Opponents may reopen and find an making game (4 for example)
-Opponents may make a phantom sacrifice, especially at this vulnerabilities

Hey, long time since our last debate about those percentages!.

I kno I said this before, but still: vulnerable games that make 36% of the time get doubled for -800 and you don't lose 6 IMPs, you lose 12 IMPs, that maths are not right.

I'd raise to 4, but with no conviction that it'd be laydown. Slam is OUT - thinking of that is pretty ridiculous to me. Even at these colours partner might be AK 7th and out, though he rates to have an outside card.
Kind regards,
Harald

I expect to be no more than one down under these circumstances for a "preempt". If you don't play SOUND PREEMPTS at this type of contest under these conditions then you never will.

Yeah but Ben, when this is an unsound Pre-empt to most people...
