"Bar room blitz"  can't recall the band's name due to the use of too many controlled substances at the time.....

How your team played the opps in the post-mortem.....

it's BALLroom blitz, by The Sweet. not completely innapropriate even then.

Again, I take cover under the influence of those substances, as the "man in the back" said. :)

too much Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, or passing the dummy to the left hand side?

Just dropped the kids off at school and had the new Coldplay CD playing. A lyric just jumped out at me and its appropo for the NAOP District Qualifying in Palm Springs on Saturday.

As I sit down against Itabashi and Larsen, they will hear:

"I will try....to FIX YOU..."

:) :P :P

"No particular place to go" (Chuck Berry): A redouble for rescue.

If we can expand this to the naming of plays:

"Din-a-ling (also Chuck Berry)": Another name for the practice finesse.

"Ring of Fire" (Johnny Cash): A surrounding play

'Mirror, Mirror' (blind guardian') convention to let partner know that you also have a 5431 on those suits.

'Back for good' (take that) to take the bidding back to a safe level.

'Little discourage' & 'Rescue' (Idlewild) self-explaining.

'We're not gonna take it' (Twisted sister), when declarer tries to stablish dummy's KQJxxx

"It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing" : Bid made late in a team game when your side desperately needs a good result.

Makes no difference if it's spades or hearts, just give that bidding everything you've got.

Just heard it in the radio:
Red Hot Chili Peppers' Under the Bridge:
Sometimes I feel
like I don’t have a partner.
Sometimes I feel
like my only friend...
:)
Those are my principles. If you don't like them I have others. (Groucho Marx)

To bring this thread back to life again...

It's league time (at least here), so may your opps say this:

The winner takes it all (ABBA)
I don’t wanna talk
About the things we’ve gone through
Though it’s hurting me
Now it’s history
I’ve played all my cards
And that’s what you’ve done too
Nothing more to say
No more ace to play

The winner takes it all
The loser standing small
Beside the victory
That’s her destiny...

... and may you be the Sultans of Swing (Dire Straits)

Have a good time!
Caren

A bit of culture needed here, I think.
Not quite the name of a conventions, and very non-PC, but

"Cosi fan tutte" = The wife's gone off in another cold game, but in this mixed pairs event it's an average
"Die forelle Quintette" = A table of 4 LOLs plus spectator
"Erbarme Dich" = oh no, she's declarer again, followed by
Haydn symphony no. 94, slow movement: "She's made it!"

maybe I'd better stop before I get too carried away here...

Trying to find a queen

Blondie

One way or another I'm gonna find ya
I'm gonna getcha getcha getcha getcha

U2

But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for

TOM JONES

"She's A Lady"

Well she's all you'd ever want,
She's the kind they'd like to flaunt and take to dinner.
Well she always knows her place.
She's got style, she's got grace, She's a winner.
She's a Lady. Whoa whoa whoa, She's a Lady.
Talkin' about that little lady, and the lady is mine.
Well she's never in the way
Always something nice to say, Oh what a blessing.
I can leave her on her own
Knowing she's okay alone, and there's no messing.
She's a lady. Whoa, whoa, whoa. She's a lady.
Talkin' about that little lady, and the lady is mine.
Well she never asks for very much and I don't refuse her.
Always treat her with respect, I never would abuse her.
What she's got is hard to find, and I don't want to lose her
Help me build a mountain from my little pile of clay. Hey, hey, hey.
Well she knows what I'm about,
She can take what I dish out, and that's not easy,
Well she knows me through and through,
She knows just what to do, and how to please me.
She's a lady. Whoa, whoa, whoa. She's a lady.
Talkin' about that little lady and the lady is mine.
Yeah yeah yeah She's a Lady
Listen to me baby, She's a Lady
Whoa whoa whoa, She's a Lady
And the Lady is mine
Yeah yeah yeah She's a Lady
Talkin about this little lady
Whoa whoa whoa whoa
Whoa and the lady is mine
Yeah yeah She's a Lady
And the Lady is mine.

The whole The smiths first album is about a 75%+ slam were you didnt find 2 queens and you're knock out of the world championship.

Reel around the fountain--- Round of bidding is coming to an end

You've got everything now --- 4 Aces 2nd round controls everywhere easy slam to bid

miserable lie--- hehe it didnt make

pretty girls make graves ---you failed to find 2 queens.

The hand that rocks the cradle --- you lost the match because of that 1.

This charming man --- partner sympathizing with your bad luck.

Still ill --- Yep we know the feeling

Hand in glove --- If only you could have seen the the hands.

What difference does it make ? enough IMPS to lose the match

I don't owe you anything --- God answer when you asked why he didnt give you hints to find at least 1 Queen .

Suffer little children ---- Those who beaten you goes to play agains Meckwell & friends
From Psych "I mean, Gus and I never see eye-to-eye on work stuff.
For instance, he doesn't like being used as a human shield when we're being shot at.
I happen to think it's a very noble way to meet one's maker, especially for a guy like him.
Bottom line is we never let that difference of opinion interfere with anything."

Used to play Vienna Club in the 1980's and couldn't stop humming (not during play) "This means nothing to me, this means nothing to me, oh Vienna...di-di di-di"

A few years ago was lucky enough to see Midge Ure do the song live (just him and a guitar, doing all the fades by just turning his head away from the mic. remarkable)
