Interesting Peter, it seems more dangerous to pass against a good aggressive pair.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

hello everyone

I overcall 1S good suit, directs the lead and shows some values.

Not even close. Not worried about an agressive pair, they likely play more action, negative and other competitive doubles. With a suit this good, they very rarely
have the cards and methods to catch me.

I do not like off shape doubles. Much rather pass than have partner bid a suit that I do not have 3+ card support for.

Regards,
Robert

A very clear 1 for me...

With my f2f partner it promisses around 8-14HCP with 4+ and 4+, but with standard methods I can only show the suit. I hate to pass with good hands and good suits!

1, without a lot of worry. Pretty normal call.
Double would be terrible; pass risks being cut out of the bid

I would like J to feel really comfortable about bidding 1, but the suit quality helps. Will also bid 1

Pass but I would probably bid 1 with 4 clubs and 3 diamonds (!)

Agree with the idea, but I would only overcall 1 with 5 clubs. So I pass.

Sorry Han, my hide is sensitive and I get thumped by better players more often than weaker ones...

Toughen up Peter, you are not going to beat the better by being afraid. :P

:) One spade. Never double (execpt with a mountain) w/o support for both majors, and its not my style to pass.

I don't confuse fear with prudence (especially where tangible consequences are involved). I've never been accused of being timid....or macho for that matter...lol
