This hand is from a very recent regional tournament team's match were I was North and heard my partner open 1 Diamond.

What is your bidding plan to get to 7NT and the top spot in the safest manner?

assume using your own methods

1c : 1nt (saf : 8+, diamond single or diamond 2 suited)
2c : 3h (tell me more : diamonds single suited, 5 controls)
7nt

but to be honest 7d is in the picture

excellent hand for beginner players, if you get to 7nt you are int level, if not go back one square.

A 7th ♦, and good intermediates, should be fine for me.
Good natural bidding, but you should be able to count 13 tricks and bid 7N.
I would have bid 2♣, instead of 1♥, but it is a matter of style.

1♠ = ~9-15, 4+♦, unbalanced, can have longer ♣
1NT = relay
2♦ = singlesuited 6+♦
2♥ = GF relay
3♥ = 2-3-7-1
4♣ = RKC ♦
4♥ = 0-3 keycards
