West opens 1 sp, North bids 2 cl, pass, ? Note: N/S agree that an overcall at the two level promises an opening hand.

(1S)-2C-(pass)-???

I pass, seems pretty clear. Where are you going Frederick, 3NT? How much do you think your hand is worth with at least 5 spades behind you?
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

it'd be hard for me to pass (and i can't tell if justin meant that or if he was just kidding)... free bid 2nt probably to grab the nt (he's a notorious nt bully - j/k :D), but is there something exceedingly evil about a 2h bid?

He meant it. Pass is clear despite the hcp's (if West is a notorious psycher you have more of a problem). Count ZAR Misfit points. Figure your partner has at most 1S and 6 C. That is 10 misfit points right there. In hearts, he rates to have less than 4, so that is another one or two misfit points. And partner either has three diamonds or a 7th club for another one. That is 12 MISFIT points (at least). When you have to subtract 12 ZAR points, this hand gets bad quickly. Or you can simple do as hannie did, ask how good will this hand be with five (plus) spades behind it?

I began to write wtp, but it is easy to see how 3N may make: as little as x Ax xxxx AKQ10xx makes 3N a reasonable shot at imps and strengthen the by a fraction and 3N is excellent.

Playing partners for magic hands is one of several roads to bridge madness, but being too conservative is just as futile and less fun.

So 2N has to be a possibility...

I wish I knew the scoring. At matchpoints, all vulnerabilities, pass seems correct on a frequency basis: partner rarely supply what we need outside if that suit does not run, and RHO may be able to double 3.

At imps, white, again I'd pass because the prize is not worth the risk.

Make it red at imps and two things happen: partner will likely be full values (the opps can double a thin 2minor relatively easily at imps) and the game bonus is much more significant.

So at imps, red, I might squeak 2N.... nah, I have a reputation, as a wimp, to uphold, so I guess I pass anyway..... but I'd say, after chalking up -10: I almost bid 2N.

Pass. Pard is unlikely to have (and even with 4 cards in the play might not be so easy). I would expect to find in front 9 cards in /.

I care about the friends I have made on BBO. Also, I am extremely concerned about the environment/ ecology/ wildlife/ the little planet that we call Earth. How much more of the world's habitat and food supply for animals do we plan on destroying. How many more wetlands are we going to drain, fill, and build on? How many more sand dunes are we going to knock down in the interests of high-rise hotels or luxury homes?

Pass

smells like a misfit

hopefully P isn't someone who overcalls at the 2-level on a minimum opener with 5332 distro (unlikely): P should have 6+ clubs
But how good are they? How likely is it that we can come to 9 tricks with potential communication problems?

Pass. You'll miss 3NT or 4H about 5% of the time, but stay out of trouble in the remaining 95% (and might even double opps if they bid on).

Pass.
2-1 the other way round in the minors would be a much nicer hand.
